Not really worried at all! It's don Meehan just trying to get every penny he can from the lightning. If by opening night no deal is done then I will worry.

I am a little worried but I think it will get done eventually. Really would be a shame to see Stammer leave for the Leafs. I like the way they are going with the rebuild(?) but he belongs in TB if you ask me.

Even with Stamkos, the Leafs aren't a Playoff team. Not this season or even the next.

He would be making a huge mistake not to resign with a good young team that just went to the SCF.

And the no state income tax has to be appealing.

I wouldn't worry about it unless he is still on the Lightning the day after the trade deadline with no contract. If they trade him, the return will be huge, if they sign him before that, then no worries. The only way the Lightning lose is if they let him walk for nothing.

The return would have to be very huge for a trade on deadline day figuring that they will probably be in the division lead at that point going into the playoffs.

Edit: And the team trading for him would have to know that they will be able to resign him. I don't see Toronto having anything that would replace Stamkos for Tampa's playoff run.

No team that thinks he wants to go to Toronto is going to pay a big sum for him at the deadline. Tampa is stuck in a bad situation if they can't get a deal done.

I, like many other hockey fans, cannot imagine how Stamkos would leave an ideal situation in Tampa. Great weather, fans, city and on the cusp of a cup win to go anywhere else, especially Toronto in the middle of a rebuild. My guess is he takes a slight discount and stays put.

Even if he signs elsewhere as an UFA next July Tampa still got good value out of him.

Seven years of indentured service in exchange for a draft pick is far more than other workplaces get out of their employees.
